Introducing C81 – Meet Adam

Adam Webb is a freelance Video Producer who has been working with us here at Chapter 81 on lots of exciting projects. This blog sees us catch up with Adam, talking food, COVID, and all things video.

Q: Adam, you’re a video wizard. Can you explain what sorts of work you’re doing at Chapter 81 at the moment, and your work generally?

I’m helping Chapter 81 with all fun things video. I shoot mouth-watering video content for the foodie clients, and generally help all of their clients tell stories visually, shout about things, and promote what they offer! I’ve been working on a lot of Leeds-orientated projects at the moment, creating videos about how great the city is – and I’m all for that type of content!

Q: What’s your professional journey up until working with Chapter 81?

I started my video production journey in the music industry. I spent my late teens and early twenties touring the world with musicians, documenting their live shows. This developed into me working with record labels, promotion companies and music festivals. It was the perfect creative environment to learn and develop my skills, alongside having great experiences and traveling the world. 

Sadly, COVID put a stop to that journey, and I had to find other industries to help with video. I’d known about Chapter 81 and Leeds Indie Food for a while, so I reached out to Simon to see if I could help with anything and I’ve been on the video front with Chapter 81 ever since.

Q: Have COVID and the two lockdowns changed your life? Do you think it’ll all revert to “how it was before” eventually?

It has drastically affected my life. As I mentioned, the majority of my work was with music, and COVID has annihilated the whole industry. In the first Lockdown I had a bit of a wobble, and knew I had to get into other industries. I chose to focus on helping local businesses, and I’ve been able to do that with Chapter 81. 

I don’t think the world will go back to how it was, as sad as that is. But that might not entirely be negative – bad situations usually spark better situations.

Q: Where are you from originally, and how did you end up in Leeds?

I was born in Leeds and have always loved the city and its offerings. I’ve been fortunate enough to have travelled a lot with work; I’ve explored and seen many other cities, but Leeds is just special. I grew up here, It has everything I need, and the Yorkshire dales are right on the doorstep!

Q: What do you think of the Leeds food and indie scene?

I love it. Leeds has such a variety of food and drinks offerings, it’s great. If there is a certain type of cuisine you like, you can definitely find someone doing it here, and putting their own twist on it. Supporting local independent places has always been something I’ve been passionate about. People make cities what they are, so I’m a firm believer that you should support things where you live, as they are part of your community and it benefits your local economy!

Q: What do you think the impact of COVID will be on the Leeds food scene, short and long term? Any space for optimism?

I think it’s going to be tough, and it’s bound to get harder before it gets any better. I feel if businesses can just endure this curveball of a year, they will all come out stronger. After all this blows over and we return to some ‘normality’, I think independent places will thrive. If I can help businesses do that, by creating videos showing people that even something like this won’t ruin their appetite for doing great things, I’m here to help!
