New “Patron” launch to help Leeds Indie Food Festival celebrate its fifth birthday
Leeds Indie Food Festival takes place from 9th-27th May 2019
A new “Patron” initiative will be launched this year as part of Leeds Indie Food festival’s fifth birthday, to support providers beyond May. Whilst Leeds Indie Food unites and celebrates Leeds’ diverse indie food scene, true foodie enthusiasts are being encouraged to do more, experience more, and eat more, all year round – to become a Leeds Indie Food Patron.
The LIF Patrons annual membership is designed to extend the collaborative spirit beyond the 18-day festival, foster ongoing engagement between punters and providers, and most importantly, give a helping hand to aspiring local indie start-ups in the city.
The annual membership will run from January to December, and is now available.
For £40 a year, Patrons will receive (amongst other benefits): a LIF Passport which is packed with discounts and deals for Leeds Indie Food Festival, invitations to private viewings and new openings throughout the year, regular newsletters, an enamel pin badge and free beer at #EatNorth and other indie food events.
Crucially, membership fees will go into a pot to help aspiring Leeds indies who are in start-up mode, providing initial leg-ups and support to ultimately help grow and develop the ongoing success of the city’s indie food scene.
The folk behind Leeds Indie Food (which attracts 27,000 people each year) and the new LIF Patron initiative also run #EatNorth, a series of successful foodie events held throughout the Summer at North Brewing Co. on the outskirts of Leeds, which Lonely Planet declared ‘the North’s best food festival.’
They also launched Chow Down at Halifax’s Piece Hall, which saw unprecedented footfall, with more than 100,000 punters across four weekends in the summer of 2018.

“Independent food is for all year, not just for May - so this year we’ve created a new approach. We help manage and run quite a few events now, and it was time for a scheme that links them all. During the 2018 festival, we met some amazing indie customers and supporters, and wanted to give them something extra. The Patrons scheme will bring LIF to every month of the year, with exclusive events and access to preview nights now in the pipeline. This is going to be a tough year for the indies, and we want to make sure as many people as possible are supporting and enjoying them.”Director of Leeds Indie Food, Simon Fogal
