Over 82% of all internet traffic will be video in 2022. So, if you’re wanting to engage an audience, shout about something online or promote a product or service, you should be producing regular, relevant and engaging video content. Here’s how to do it with what’s already in your pocket!

First, define why you’re making the video.

What’s the goal? To get more sign ups to your newsletter? Sell more tickets to your event? Or maybe to explain a product or service? Being clear on your goal is key to making video content that achieves it.

Now, make a plan

What are you going to say and show within the video? Get your concept, inspiration and shot ideas out of your head and onto a page. Then you can refine it down and make a plan of what you need, who you’ll need and how you’re going to film it. This makes your ideas clear – plus, it’ll be much easier to communicate the vision with others.

Get your phone out, it's time to shoot!

There aren’t any ‘rules’ to filming on your phone, but here are a few pointers:

– Keep it steady – you don’t want to make people dizzy

– Light is your friend. Shoot in front of windows, lights or outside

– Keep it to the point. Remember, the average human attention span is about eight seconds

– Think about audio. Dialogue, music and sound effects will enhance the overall video

– Shoot more than you think you need. It’s always good to have options while editing

– Use your plan as a guide, but get creative! Try ideas out on the day

Piece it together

Edit it together so your video comes to life! If it’s a video of you talking, try to include other footage over the top to keep it engaging and entertaining. Get feedback, ask if the message of the video is clear, and then refine it down until you’re happy.

Finally, get it out into the world

Post it on all your relevant social accounts. Make sure people know about it. If the video does well organically, consider boosting it or use paid advertisement to get it in front of new eyes and customers.
