A magazine for Lockdown
Collaboration = Community
A magazine for lockdown dreamed up by Leeds Indie Food and brought to you by Chapter 81, FYI, Leeds Living and Leeds City Council. This project was created by more than 50 contributors and includes 23 recipes, features on comedy, football, and music, tips for making bread and brewing coffee, alternative ways to support independent businesses (including t-shirts) and more. 10,000 copies were printed on 120gm uncoated (so you can colour in the doodles) and distributed across Leeds with a digital version launching on Monday 18th May.
In 2020 Leeds Indie Food made a conscious effort and mission statement to go about helping the city tell the food & drink story of Leeds. One of the ideas was to supplement the events with a regular newspaper/ magazine, showcasing some of the stories.
We are dead proud of the way the indies lead the way in the city and aren’t scared to try something new. When COVID-19 came about we switched our planning spreadsheets for calls to help them. Firstly encouraging them to launch vouchers online. I think we were the first group to encourage this widely too but we wanted to showcase the ideas and the off the cuff thinking of indies and their adaptability. Our event pages became business listings, but that just didn’t work so we called in our amazing branding team to make us a proper Online Directory (Huge thanks Hungry Sandwich Club).
“Over recent months we’ve worked on several community projects to ‘do our bit’ for no fee. We’ve supported Leeds’ enjoyment industry for over 10 years, so when Simon approached us it was always a yes to collaborating. Our door’s always open to projects like this, they add another dimension to life at FYI as well as supporting our community.”Dave Crapper, FYI
So many thanks go to this project and crazy how we conducted this from home at a time like this. Late night whatsapps, Insta DM’s, Slacks, emails, Monday boards, dropbox, google drives, PDFS and calls.
